Caribbean 2020-21

Cruises to Caribbean
With an island for every taste, the Caribbean is the ultimate place for relaxation. You'll find white sands and turquoise water throughout the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. Some islands are lush, with rain forests and mountain trails, while others have desert climates and coral beaches. Wherever you visit, taste regional specialties such as conch fritters and get out on the water with snorkeling and sailing excursions.

The Western Caribbean consists of islands due south of Florida, such as Grand Cayman and Jamaica; destinations on Mexico's Caribbean coast on or near the Yucatan Peninsula, such as Costa Maya, Cozumel and Progreso; and Central American destinations in the Caribbean, such as Belize and Honduras. Key West, on Florida's southernmost tip, is another popular stop, particularly for cruises that originate from the East Coast ports of Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

Eastern Caribbean Cruise Itineraries Of all the regions in all the world, the Eastern Caribbean offers the most choice for cruising. Nearly every cruise line, major or minor, offers some type of itinerary that either concentrate on the region or at least touch a port or two. Choosing an itinerary is pretty easy as most ships visit the mainstream ports such as the U.S. Virgin Islands' St. Thomas and St. Maarten in the Netherlands Antilles. Tortola, the biggest British Virgin Island, is also popular. San Juan, Puerto Rico's capital city, is not only a day tripping port, it also serves as a jumping-off spot for ship embarkations.

The Southern Caribbean harbors the lion's share of the region's islands. But because many are smaller and less developed than more easily accessible northerly ones, they tend to be less traveled. Many Southern Caribbean cruises depart from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Other embarkation spots include Ft. Lauderdale, Port Canaveral, Tampa, and Miami. Luxury lines and small ships often embark in St. Maarten or Barbados; the islands of the Southern Caribbean are often part of longer Panama Canal voyages as well.
